How to Match Your Floor and Wall Tiles

When planning an interior scheme, it’s important to create a look that is both stylish and cohesive. Whilst vibrant colours and statement patterns capture the eyes of our guests, it’s vital to maintain a sense of balance to achieve the perfect setting.

Your floors and walls play a vital role in framing a space, so it’s worth taking the time to get it just right! Whether you’d like to seamlessly blend or mix different colours and textures, read our blog on all the ways you can effortlessly match your floor and wall tiles to create the dream look.

Match with the Same Tiles

Using the same tiles on walls and floors has become more and more popular in modern homes as it creates the illusion of more space. However this doesn’t mean they have to be an exact match. Usually, you would need to use a different floor tile in wet areas such as bathrooms or even kitchens, to add some extra safety underfoot. Non-slip floor tiles provide the same great durability and style as regular tiles, but with more grip through the subtle texture of the surface.

Collections such as our Cliveden range, are available in a range of different sizes, ideal for those wanting to complement their floor and wall tiles. The Cliveden concept rectangular tile is perfect for walls thanks to its three-dimensional design whilst the plain square tile is more suited to floors to help open up the area and create the illusion of more space - providing you with the perfect look whilst meeting your practical needs.

Pairing with Colour

The first impression of a room is everything and will be what sets the tone as soon as you step through the door, so it’s important to get the colours right. You don’t have to go wild, you can simply use two different style tiles in a similar colourway.

Our stunning Havana and Poitiers collections combine beautifully for a seamless design scheme. The Silver Ornate floor tile from the Havana range allows you to experiment with playful pattern whilst maintaining a calm palette of soft blue, white and grey shades. This tile can then be paired with Poitier’s White, Moonlight Grey and Mint Green tiles for a harmonious and timeless look.

How to Pair your Tiles with Different Colours

Now, once you’ve laid your tiles it’s important to consider the other colours you will be bringing in to complement them. Normally interior designers will work with a palette of similar shades, which is based on a chromatic scale. To help you distinguish the colours you want to layer with, we would recommend creating a moodboard beforehand as this will help with working out what colours work best with your tiles.

Another factor to note is that you don’t necessarily need to stick to one colour and style tile for the whole space, so long as the colours work well together, you have perfectly matched your tiles. As seen below, our stunning Dyroy Aqua tiles work beautifully with the decorative patterns of our Antracite Contrasti floor tiles, the look is further complemented with painted walls in a soft green shade, dark accents and grouting alongside hanging lighting for a statement finish.
